Bondage & Breaking Free part 2: The Crafting of Bondage according to the Bible I

Greetings Conquerors,

Welcome to part 2 section 1. In part 1 we discussed the different types of bondage in the physical and spiritual realms. Today we go deeper into the crafting of bondage. To do this, we examine spiritual bondage in greater detail

BUT WHY SPIRITUAL BONDAGE?

We are going to examine the crafting of bondage from a spiritual perspective. The reason why it is wise to take it from this angle is that we are first and foremost spirit before we are flesh. We are spiritual beings. Being spiritual means that even our lives happen from the spirit out into the physical. Now whether one knows this or not, whether too they chose to believe this viewpoint or not is irrelevant. It is what it is! This one is not even a matter of believing in God or not. It is not even about being Christian or not too. We are simply spiritual and that is why spiritual bondange is always at the core of all kinds of physical bondages discussed in part 1. Now we want to further expand on the kinds of and sources of spiritual bondage highlighted in part 1 from a biblical perspective so as to understand the actual crafting of bondage in our lives as an agenda.

Section 1: The Belief System

The Crafting of Bondage in the Belief System

A belief system is a religious affiliation someone subcribes too. In most cases, people believe in God, the maker of heaven and earth. Those that don’t believe in God actually believe in something else which can be their own selves or idols. Sometimes these bemiefs are not deliberate but default. Sadly any belief system that doesn’t humble itself to God Almighty plays into the hands of the opposer of all good- the wicked one knowingly or in ignorance. In this article i am going to make reference to the Christian religion. This is a religion that stands out from all other religions at the point of Jesus Christ. There are other religions that claim to believe in God but they are Anti-Christ. For the purposes of those who may wonder why Christ is a bone of contention…the Doctrine of Christ was God’s super redemptive idea to reconcile man-kind to himself. To do this, Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit and conceived of the virgin Mary. Believing in this is a choice as it obviously sounds unbelievable. Careful study of the holy scriputres and rightly dividing the word of truth will bring revelation to those seeking it not for the sake of contention but for the hunger of knowing him to whom we are answerable. As it were, the Word itself is Spirit and one must become spirit first inorder to get access to the revelations therein, “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV)

Now back to the concept of Bondage, people either find themselves in bondage because of doctrinal error i.e choosing to dishonor God by disregarding Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6) or worse still believing in Jesus Christ but choosing to be lackadaisical about their spiritual walk. The thing is that people might as well not give their life to Jesus Christ if they will not care enough to give God the honors of being exemplary soldiers in the war against wickedness. The Crafting of Bondage starts long before it actually starts biting. It is much like cancer- by the time symptoms start showing, it maybe to late! Out of the belief system, two significant forces arise in the assumption of bondage viz curse and ignorance. We will look at these in detail below

  • Curse: Many curse openings come up in scripture but the father of them all is when God gives Moses the law or commandments and then accompanies the law with the freedom of choice statement saying in Deuteronomy 30:19, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live“. A cursed life is a life in which things don’t just work and it doesn’t make sense. It is like a death situation because there is literally no life in the things one seeks to do and thats not all. Even the things they seek to take part in suddenly dry off or wither. I have seen people shake a corpse with hope that the person would come back to life. I have seen people pray for a life that has just departed from a body to come back. The desperation thereof! The pain! The disbelief that their worst fear is now facing them and the wish that they are dreaming! Such is the life that is cursed. It is dry from the roots and no amount of prayer, tears or aid of whatever sort can change it except God himself lifts off the curse. Unfortunately God will never violate or alter his own word. He is sovereign and everything is already on standby to be obedient to him to perform his will. As humans, having been given freedom of choice… we must play our cards well otherwise even nature works against us.
  • Ignorance: This is simply a lack of information or knowledge. Sadly, ignorance has no respect of persons as even pastors can be caught unarmed with the right or specific knowledge to their downfall. The bible is very clear on the effects of ignorance, it being a highly informative book set out to give an example of how we should and should not live in this temporary life we have as human beings (1 Corinthians 10:11; Romans 15:4). When it comes to spiritual bondage, worldy knowledge or wisdom doesn’t cut it. This is why often times people find themselves in frustration and confusion where they think they are learned or powerful enough to fix their problems. Ignorance knows no race, colour, creed, wealth, beauty, power or spiritual standing! This is one area of bondage that can confound years of experience, education, spirtual growth or promotion acquired in the physical realm. As it were, professors who have studied the Word for the sake of study and contention have missed the mark and left off all their work with no spiritual upliftment, power or revelation. In the spirit world, God and God alone will promote or demote, annoint or reject as he sees fit in his wisdom. He declares,

“Therefore my people have gone into captivity, Because they have no knowledge; Their honorable men are famished, And their multitude dried up with thirst”

(Isaiah 5:13).

A closer examination of the two grounds in which bondage is crafted in the area of one’s Belief System shows that we as individuals play a part in the situations we find ourselves in. Yes, one may be born in negative circumstances but that is no excuse for ignorance going forward. Neither does playing the victim make things better. Infact it fuels bondage. God has made sure that his word is available in this world as a guiding light and way. Many preachers are making a good effort to take the word to the nations. Still many people are stuck in religions of their forefathers and refusing even for a minute to cast off their loyalties to flesh and accept the spirit of the living God in his word. Interestingly, even in anti-christ religions, spiritualism or spiritism reigns and unfortunately it becomes a demonic agenda wrapped in spirituality and religion to the bondage of unsuspecting individuals. The word of God is a wealth of knowledge and yet even the bible itself could not contain all of the text that it should have. However enough information is available with regards to the sovereignty of God and the existence of other gods who are infact no gods but the inventions of man and something God in his mercy chooses to tolerate as he gives grace for repentance. You can read more about other gods here. (NB* its a 3 part series)When it comes to the belief system, bondage is like the subtle snake that enters a person who is right in the presence of God and persuades them to believe otherwise against the guidelines set for them. The fruit looks attractive and worthy to be tasted but it is forbidden yet here is a convincing sly one saying don’t worry it will be ok, then boom! In the same way, it is attractive to choose self in the place of God or to choose a god one can see in the place of the unseen God…Ignorance!!! The same old ignorance has led people into witchcraft and dabbling with all kinds of occult or magic in pursuit of prosperity, vengeance and self protection. Always at a price and before they know it they are in too deep and don’t know how to quit or get out and still have their life. Well, with all the death threats one finds themselves going round in circles with no hope of freedom. That is bondage. God says there is no other way to him than Christ, man has devised many other midlemen and spirits to reach what they say is the same God, really? Unfortunately or fortunately fake is fake and the fruits are always a sellout…Curse!!!Now therefore, two scenarios can be highlighted in the crafting of bondage in the belief system zone.

  1. The Christian
  2. The Anti-Christ

The Christian enters into bondage because they choose not to inquire from the Lord or get to know him better. They are unarmed in a world where we are on the battlefront of good and evil. They err and get stuck in their errors with no knowledge of how to even begin to get out. Most times too, they are not aware of their own contributions to their scenario in the way they will have violated spiritual rules in ignorance. However there are times that Christians enter into bondage with full knowldege of what they are doing but are so attracted to the objects of their desires that they risk everything like Eve in the garden. Ofcourse bondage then comes as a curse or chastisement. As for the Anti-Christ, their life is already cursed having refused the light of God-Jesus Christ who according to the book of John is the life of man. What life is there if the life himself is not present?Nonetheless bondage is not cast in stone. It is not easily detectible in the beginning and by the time the effects start showing up like cancer, the damage will be almost impossible to fix or so it seems. The reason bondage passes of as ‘normal’ at the beginning is because God is merciful and patiently awaits his creation to accept him. It is this patience that has deceived many into thinking they can get away with unbelief or worsestill not even know that they are in unbelief and it is a problem. Unfortunately also the father of evil, the devil uses this gap to convince people that they can do and believe what they want or what he himself sets them up with. This way, people are kept from the actual knowledge and in that pervetted wisdom, they perish. In conclusion, the introduction of other gods in ones life is an action of choosing death/curse. In the same way, choosing God but refusing to get knowledge and adhere to the rules of engagement introduces death cycles again riding on ignorance. As discussed earlier bondage is like a death situation in which things become lifeless and there is no progressiveness as expected.

That’s it for today, join me in Section 2 of Sprititual Bondage as we look at Pride in the Crafting of Bondage.
