Bondage & Breaking Free Part 1: What is Bondage

Dearest Conquerors all over the world

It has been the longest while since we last met. A lot of stuff has been going on in my mind. I had basically too many topics or articles and i couldn’t figure out which one to write first. Today i just woke up and thought, why not start from somewhere and here we are.

So there is this thing called bondage. Something which is sometimes described as a place between four walls. Well maybe four walls are at least nice, what about between a rock (with all of its sometimes sharp and uneven corners and curves) and a hard place? Well honestly for me bondage would definately be the zone in your life when you are stuck in some unknown muddy or gummy substance and the more you try to make a move the more you get stuck onto some more of that irritating or disgusting stuff. I think this would be the best way to describe it! So there’s sticky, slimmy, smelly stuff all over your life some of it irritating your eyes and obstructing you from seeing or navigating the way properly. Some of it just up in your hair causing you to look a terrible mess that noone wants to say hi to. Some of it just stuck in your mouth that when you try to speak people run for their lives. So in essence, i’ve painted a two-sided picture here…one side where this mess affects you and one other side where this same mess affects those that are around you. It is no surprise that the endgame becomes isolation, lonliness, confusion, distress…maybe even despair, depression or suicide ideation. Yeah! The more you are stuck in this mess the more you consider total exit into an unknown world ‘because this world sucks!’ Can i also mention that, isolation or suicide ideation and all these negative things are not conscious efforts but inevitable offshoots of a situation going out of hand to the end that one may not be aware of what they are exhibitting, manifesting or planning.

The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines bondage as- “a state of being bound usually by compulsion”. This signifies a lack of freedom, imprisonment or even slavery. Again this denotes difficulty of life, of circumstances and of a situation. There are so many situations in which people find themselves in life that can be referred to as bondage.

Types of Bondage

Physical Realm Bondages
These bondages take place in the natural world. They affect our physical bodies directly and are traceable to physical/natural causes. Although they may happen seperately, they actually have a tendency of affecting or activating each other back and forth.

  1. Financial Bondage: This is the bondage that has to do with ones financial standing. The ruler in this bondage is money or wealth. As we all know money answers all things. Without money, so many other things become stagnant. It becomes difficult to feed, keep a relationship, develop self or shelter one. For those with responsibilities to others, financial bondage can spark off some of the most unbearable challenges in relationships. Financial bondage means that one is now imprisoned by lack or poverty and they nolonger have a voice or say in the matters concerning their life. If poverty says “hunger,” they starve. If poverty shouts “immobility,” they can’t move or go anywere. If poverty screams “divorce,” thats it etc
  2. Relational Bondage: This bondage is as the name suggests and thus of a relationship nature. It speaks of being stuck in a relationship thats not adding value to one. These relationships are consistent with abusive and toxic others to the point of threatening one’s existence yet every now and then people find themselves without a voice in such associations. The ruler of this bondage is either a covenant or the other participant(s) in the relationship. In the case of other participant(s), it is obvious that they will normarlly have an edge or advantage over the one in bondage thereby imprisoning them. This advantage can be physical (e.g strength, power, financial, education, geographic/situational etc) or spiritual (mental, emotional, witchcraft, religion etc).
  3. Geographic Bondage: When it comes to geographic bondage, one is confined in a physical location they would not rather be in. Both financial and relational bondages play a part in this bondage although it may have originated in its own right from birth in some cases e.g born in the rural areas, born in prison etc. Sometimes people get stuck in certain places because of work to make a living or crime as in the case of jailment. Then ofcourse lack and/ or poverty will definately stand in the way of one seeking to move from one area to another.

Spiritual Realm Bondages
These bondages are of unseen means and causes. They originate from the spiritual world through causes of self or others just like in the physical realm and can operate interchangeably or one causing the other or being activated as a result of the other.

  1. Belief System: One’s belief system can always be traced back to the bondage they experience. This is because in every religion they are rules, regulations and covenants governing the activities of gods and their followers. For this reason, any measure of error has consequences that are in most cases punitive either temporarily or permanently. Now because one knows their own rules of engagement, inevitable error activates bondage in the the outcome of ones actions and this individuals always know from their acts of wrong doing. ‘Curse’ is the master behind bondage here.
  2. Pride: At the core of perceived bondage is pride. This is the attitude or spirit an individual possesses that gives them a position of power in their own life and ofcourse it translates to how they place themselves in others lives. As it were, being in this power drives individuals in attempts to superimpose their own power to other individuals who also have their own contending self acclaimed powers in their own domains. It then becomes a clash of powers or a survival of the fittest! Thus those whose powers are found lessor find themselves in bondage to those who seem to be more powerful in any given instance, situation or circumstamce. The chief operating force here is the ‘Why’ factor- Why Me? Why is this…? Why did this happen…? An intrusive stream of Whys that get no answers, an attitude and hunger for control that will never be gained or achieved.
  3. Fear: This one is a giant in its own right. Fear of any magnitude imprisons one. People may suffer in bondage of fear of the unknown or even the known. In its simplest form fear is the threat to one’s peace normally activated by percieved loss. The loss can be of anything from loss of control, power, peace, safety, dignity, finances, property relationships, loved ones, health and life. Acts of force, crime, violation and abuse of any kind are normally used to create an atmosphere of fear. Sometimes trauma from past unpleasant experiences triggers fear. Anxiety is the chief culprit behind the bondage of fear and just the thought of losing control can be a major introduction to bondage.

In conclusion,
We have seen that bondage happens on two levels i.e the  physical and spiritual planes. However it is important to note that as explained prior, any kind of bondage can originate of itself or be activated by another type of bondage(s) and yet it can also give rise to others after its inception. This also means that physical bondages can originate in spiritual bondages and vic versa. What this means is that bondage is like an army of soldiers.  The one that gains territory first can make room for others as they partner together to create a stronghold and eventually take out their target if nothing is done to outst them. The journey to being taken out begins with something as simple as worry which when left unresolved can graduate into stress, onto distress or even depression and boom suicidal thoughts as one becomes consumed with thoughts of hopelessness or uselessness. Ultimately the stronghold(s) of bondage will have achieved their goal.

Just what are these strongholds of bondage?
How do they gain access and how does one break free?

Join me again in part 2 as we discuss the stronghold (s) behind bondage
